About Me

Hey 👋, I'm John, and welcome to my website! I currently work as a machine learning scientist in the Prescient Design team at Genentech.

Previously, I did a postdoc in the Coley Research Group at MIT, where I investigated how to apply machine learning to problems in chemistry such as reaction prediction and drug design. Before that, I completed a PhD in the Machine Learning Group (Dept. of Engineering) at the University of Cambridge. As part of the Cambridge/Tübingen program & ELLIS, during my PhD I was also affiliated and did a placement with the Empirical Inference Group in the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems in Tübingen. Between my PhD and my undergraduate studies in Engineering, I worked at Tractable in London, applying machine learning to problems in disaster recovery.
